Arsenal Next Manager: 10 Replacements For Arsene Wenger

5. Patrick Vieira

Like Bergkamp, this would be a romantic appointment for the Arsenal board, but perhaps not as much of a gamble as the Dutchman would be. The former French international has had plenty of experience in different non-playing roles since hanging up his boots with Manchester City in 2011. He spent time being heavily involved in Manchester City's youth development (something which is starting to bear fruit with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho breaking into the first team) before becoming the manager of the club's reserve team. He then left Manchester to take up a position as head coach at one of City's sister clubs New York City FC in MLS. The American season does not kick off until 6th March, so how he will fare as a first-team manager remains to be seen, but his new club were unbeaten throughout pre-season. Vieira may be just starting out in his managerial career but he is highly-regarded within the game as an intelligent coach. Newcastle United saw enough promise to approach him about their managerial vacancy before Steve McClaren was appointed, but the Frenchman (wisely) turned them down. If he impresses in New York over the next few months, would it be totally outlandish for the club to approach their former captain as a saviour? Stranger things have happened.
