Arsenal Transfer News: Spanish Wing Wizard Incoming?

Wenger said to have made an offer for Real Madrid youngster Jesé Rodriguez

According to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Arsene Wenger's Arsenal have made a substantial offer to sign Spanish under-19 player Jesé Rodriguez from Real Madrid as they look for alternatives if Theo Walcott does choose to head for the Emirates exit. They will however reportedly face stiff competition from Portuguese side Benfica for the youngster who caught the eye with a scintillating performance against Portugal in last year's U19 Euro tournament. Jesé has only recently been promoted to the senior team at Madrid, with whom he is still contracted, and has made what was said to be significant strides in changing his attitude, which had seen him classified as something of a rebel previously. The winger only made appeared once for the senior Madrid team last term, but has represented Spain from U16 level all the way up to U19 level, where he has scored six goals in 11 appearances, including a hat-trick during that eye-catching performance against Portugal. He finished as top scorer in the same European u19 Championship and actually scored the winning goal in the final against Greece to crown Spain champions. Arsene Wenger will be keen to bolster his wider attacking options if England star Walcott does leave in this window - which is made all the more probable by his current contract issues - and the Spaniard would fit the bill of a young talent who could develop at the club and possibly be sold on later for profit. Whether there is any weight to these reports remains to be seen, since Jesé recently proclaimed his happiness at having made the transition to the first team at Madrid and with boss Jose Mourinho happy to keep him it looks like Arsenal might have to pay a bit more than expected to bring him in. So, Arsenal fans - would you welcome the signing, or would you prefer more established players to join Arsenal during this summer window? Share your thoughts below.
