Arsenal Transfers: 10 Dream Signings Wenger Still Needs To Make
6. Iker Casillas
It is looking increasingly likely that David Ospina will be arriving at the Emirates but the club have always struggled when they haven't had an experienced keeper in their ranks as a back-up When David Seaman retired we struggled with a not quite ready Manninger, and though the club were successful with Jens Lehman, we have struggled since he left because of a lack of an older head. As talented as Ospina is, his only experience has come with Columbia and never at the top level in Europe, where the pressure to win is immense. Casillas however, has experience in buckets. He would be the perfect mentor for Szczesny and the younger Martinez and could initially push the Polish no.1 to perform at his best while providing quality cover when needed. And despite his recent drop in form, he would bring a winning mentality and composure to the whole squad. The Spanish goalkeeper is a superb shot stopper and is famed for his quick reactions and instinctive reflexes. And additionally, his dominance from set pieces, solid distribution and his organisational skills make him the ideal role model for Arsenal's younger 'keepers who could do with a guiding influence in the squad. Casillas would represent better value to the squad, but only if Arsenal can negotiate him down from a megabucks salary, which is probably easier said than done.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
