7. Gilberto Silva
(Brazil. 2002 - 2008. 244 Appearances, 24 Goals.) Gilberto signed for Arsenal in 2002, joining the Gunners off the back of World Cup success with Brazil in that summers tournament. Immediately settling into his new team with a debut goal against Liverpool in the 1-0 Community Shield win in Cardiff, the tenacious Brazilian began to establish his place in the Arsenal starting 11. Over the next few seasons he was to form a formidable partnership with Patrick Vieria in the centre of Arsenal's midfield, helping the team accomplish the unbeaten league season in 2003/2004. As well as being a physical presence on the pitch - tough tackling and an expert at stopping attacks - he could also stride forward and create chances, appearing graceful on the ball and scoring the occasional goal, a number coming in big games for Arsenal. He was given the nickname 'The Invisible Wall' in his homeland of Brazil, and Arsenal fans could plainly see that when he didn't play, Arsenal missed him badly, making them appreciate how much work he did for the team. In my opinion Arsenal have never found a replacement for Gilberto Silva.
