Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players They Need To Buy To Win The Title
8. Javi Martinez
Club: Bayern Munich Arsenal may have one of the most enviable midfield's in the Premier League but one area they are short on is some steel in the middle of the park. They need a world class defensive midfielder who can protect the back four, break up play and win the ball back. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are both solid players in that position but neither are world class. Martinez is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and attracted Arsenal's interest in 2012 but they were blown out of the financial water by Munich who paid the £32 million required to activate the get-out clause in his contract. Since then however Martinez has found himself out of favour with Munich's new manager Pep Guardiola and has lost his place in their starting line-up. With Javi Martinez out of favour, there is a good chance he would be available for less than Munich for him paid two years ago and willing to move so he can play every week. There would surely be a scramble for his signature between Europes elite teams but Arsenal could show off their new found financial muscle, and send a message to the rest of the Premier League, by signing him.
