2. Alexandre Pato
The Duck a Gunner? Wenger has tried to sign Brazilian forward Pato before when he left AC Milan as
the Express so astutely pointed out. It's that same source again that suggests a cut-price £10 million transfer or loan deal from Corinthians in January. Having been recently dropped from Phil Scolari's national squad in favour of one-time Manchester City flop Robinho, Pato knows his hopes of making the World Cup roster on home soil next summer hang by a thread. In the continued absence of Fred, however, the Brazil centre forward berth is wide open. Something drastic on Pato's part like a short-term switch to the Emirates Stadium might be a gamble worth taking as Scolari has regularly called up Premier League players. At 24 he is still to reach his prime, but has been in and out of the Corinthians team in the last month. Before being plagued with persistent thigh injuries, Pato was a hot property. In Milan he managed double figures for goals three seasons running between 2008 and 2011. Wenger may turn to him once again as he short of striking options. If Pato is available at the bargain basement fee mentioned above, it would be foolish of the Arsenal boss not to explore the possibility of bringing him in this winter.
