2. Julio Cesar
Second choice goalkeeper is a position in which the Gunners squad is seriously lacking. It is undoubtedly the most difficult position in which to attempt to recruit; its a position which constitutes career stagnation, sitting an entire season out on the bench only to be realistically used in the Capital One Cup (well get used to it) unless the number one gets injured. Several keepers have been mentioned as possibilities to fill this vacation, however none make sense given the job description. Jack Butland is a ferociously talented young keeper who needs game time to develop into a star; and the other name mentioned, Hugo Lloris is a brilliant keeper in his own right and would be totally wasted sitting on the bench. No, second-choice goalkeeper should be an experienced player in the twilight of their career, still capable of doing a job but content with waiting his turn; someone with international and Champions League experience would be nice... Step forth Julio Cesar. The 32 year old shot stopper has 64 caps for the Brazilian national team, with experience from two world cups. In his senior club career, Cesar made 130 appearances for Flamengo before moving to Inter Milan in 2005. In 228 appearances for Internazionale, Cesar has amassed five Serie A titles, 3 Italian cups, one Champions league trophy and a Club World Cup. This now well decorated senior player has declared his desire to leave Inter this summer, prompting him to be linked with a move to Arsenal. Julio Cesar would be a great addition to Arsenal in a season where they look to push for silverware for several reasons. He would keep Wojicech Szczesny on his toes and make him less likely to make errors; I love our Polish goalkeeper as much as any fan, but even I must admit that its never good to have a goalkeeper so comfortable in his position in the starting line-up. The presence of Cesar would also mean that if Szczesny were to sustain any injury, wed have a very capable replacement capable at hand and wouldnt suffer a collapse in form as a result. Julio Cesar would be a big step up from Lukasz Fabianski and would add the polishing touch to an already brilliant transfer window for Arsenal.
