3. Gregory van der Wiel
Finally, a position in which Arsenal need to strengthen if they are to win the Premier League title next season is right-back. With Bacary Sagna expected to miss the start of the season and the available replacements being the promising yet inexperienced Carl Jenkinson or Francis Coquelin, Arsenal would do well to purchase a quality right back. The name most recently linked with the Gunners is Dutch ace Gregory van der Wiel. The Ajax star has just a single year left on his contract and its claimed that the Eredivisie Champions are keen to sell him this summer (or January) rather than risk him leaving for free next year. The Mirror claim hed cost Arsenal just £7m, a great price for a talented, fully-fledged Dutch international who would solve the annual Arsenal fullback crisis A graduate of the famous Ajax academy, van der Wiel made his debut for Ajax as a substitute for Jaap Stam in 2007, but it was the following season where he started to make his mark for the club. He made 43 appearances in the 2008/09 season, and has been ever present in the starting line-up since with 127 total appearances, winning two league titles and two Dutch cups.. On the international scene, van der Wiel has been capped 35 times by the Netherlands, starring most prominently in their run to the 2010 world cup final. Having been the subject of serious interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the past, the Dutchman clearly has lots of quality, and would benefit Arsenal greatly in a title race. He possesses the skills needed to become a Premier League star, being a solid defensive presence relied on by the Dutch national team, as well as a fast attacking fullback with a decent cross. His playing style is similar to Arsenals Kieran Gibbs, but with a general step-up in all departments. Gregory van der Wiel would add yet more international pedigree to the Arsenal squad, helping them to concede fewer goals then last season and maybe, just maybe mounting a serious title challenge. If Arsenal manage to sign these three players, keep van Persie, Song and Walcott and get off to a good start in a few weeks time, then they would surely be in the driving seat for a Premier League title, what do you think?
