5. Mohamed Diame
Arsenal first registered their interest in West Ham United's defensive midfielder back in January and it looked as though the Senegalese star was set for a dramatic move away from Upton Park after a mystery club
activated his £3.5 million release clause. The 26-year-old was persistently linked with Arsenal and their London rivals Tottenham in the winter transfer window and the midfielder represented an attractive option for both rivals due to his affordable price-tag. Since then however, Arsenal have cooled their interest while Spurs have signed Pailinho from Corinthians. But Arsene Wenger could still rekindle his interest with two weeks left of the transfer window to run, and he does need a new defensive midfielder. His side have looked weak in the centre of the park ever since the sale of Alex Song to Barcelona last summer and Diame could bring some much-needed steel to the squad, and Wenger wouldn't have to break the bank for him, either.
