5. Mohamed Diame
Back in January, Arsenal, as well as their North London derby rivals Tottenham, were heavily linked with the West Ham United midfielder. The
Independent reported at the time that the 26-year-old former Wigan Athletic star had a release clause of just £3.5 million, making him an attractive option due to his affordability. Despite all the rumours that the player would be snapped up on transfer deadline day, Diame remained at Upton Park and since then there has been no further news of Arsenal's interest. However, the France born Senegalese international would be a terrific buy by Wenger and would seem to fit the club's "blueprint" perfectly. The Gunners are renown for buying in French players, while Diame is a strong, tough-tackling, physically imposing defensive midfielder the like of which the club have lacked since selling Alex Song. The lure of Champions League football next season may be enough to attract the player to the Emirates this summer if Wenger rekindled his interest.
