Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Arsene Wenger Must Sign To Save His Job

3. Lars Bender

Lars Bender Missing out on key targets has become something of a worrying theme at the Emirates this summer. Moves for Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and, more recently, Luiz Gustavo, have all fallen through in recent months. And Gustavo's decision to join Wolfsburg instead is perhaps the biggest snub of them all. The Brazilian would have improved Arsenal's midfield tenfold, particularly as they are in desperate need of a new defensive midfielder. The Gunners have looked weak in the middle of the park since Alex Song's departure for Barcelona last summer and have lacked that bit of steel that is so necessary to succeed in English football. And one player who could add more bite to their engine room is Lars Bender. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is being tracked by Arsenal and has been linked with a move to North London all summer, with the Gunners already failing with a £19 million bid two months ago. And it looks like Wenger is about to come in with a new offer which, for his sake and Arsenal's, will hopefully be accepted this time.
