The AS Roma keeper joined the Italian outfit after impressing in his native Holland for several years. Tracked by Arsenal before the emergence of a young Wojciech Szczesny, Arsene felt there was no need to approach the Dutchman for his services. Now however, with Arsenals current custodian far from assertive at times, he may look back to the Dutch shot stopper as competition for his only real option in the Arsenal sticks. Not since the days of Jens Lehmann have the Gunners had a reliable stopper, searching out names such as Almunia, Fabianski and even trying out Damian Martinez. It is well know Szczesny performs better when somebody is tapping on his shoulder and maybe Stekelenburg could be that man
