2. Ashley Williams
Ashley Williams has been a remarkable figure of consistency at the back for Swansea City this season, with his displays of defensive ability and leadership qualities leading many to believe him to be one of the league's most under-rated defenders. The Wales captain is not prone to error, he keeps a very cool head and is technically a good defender. His physical stature also means he is a useful player in defending and attacking set pieces, and he is on the whole a remarkably sound player. His signing wouldn't be greeted with any great jubilation, but he could yet prove an extremely valuable asset to have at a club such as Arsenal. The North London club have endured a mixed season defensively, with brilliant late form by their foremost partnership of Koscielny and Mertesacker somewhat masking the unfortunate demise of club captain Thomas Vermaelen. The two centre backs have established themselves as the number one partnership, with a great understanding between them and some stellar displays towards the end of the season. Vermaelen has been sidelined somewhat, with rumours emerging he may leave the club this summer. If this were true, then Ashley Williams would be the perfect man to replace him. A ready-made Premier League experienced defender, who would provide great cover when one of the two first-choice defenders were inevitably injured.
