Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Arsene Wenger Still Failed This Summer

4. No New Centre-Backs

Arsenal have been crying out for a new centre-back for years and yet Arsene Wenger failed to address this issue in the summer transfer window, despite the fact he suffered from a crisis last month. Thomas Vermaelen is suffering from a chronic back injury and will be out until the middle of September while Laurent Koscielny's suspension at the start of the season forced Wenger to play Bacary Sagna as a makeshift centre-half. These risqué tactics may well have worked in the 3-1 win at Fulham but Arsenal won't get away with not having a recognised centre-back in the big games. It beggars belief that Wenger didn't try to bring in at least one new defender this summer considering this is one of the main areas of the pitch most in need of attention. But once again, it has been neglected.
