Arsenal Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Arsene Wenger Still Failed This Summer

2. Paid Over-The-Odds On Ozil?

Ozil Even the capturing of Ozil can be deemed as a failure on Arsene Wenger's part. Yes, the now-former Real Madrid ace is good, but is he seriously worth £42.4 million? Ozil only netted nine times in La Liga last season, and four and six times in the preceding two campaigns at the Bernabeu. He's by no means an out-and-out goalscoring machine and though his assist ratio is high - more than any other player across Europe€™s top five leagues - you can't help but quibble over the price-tag. Wenger had £70 million to spend this summer and he lavished more than half of it on just one player who hasn't yet proven himself in English football nor indeed as a goalscorer. Ozil has just become Arsenal's record signing and eyebrows have been raised over the fee paid.
