Arsenal Transfers: Predicting Arsene Wenger's 5 August Signings

£70 million to spend on new players, so far, the North London club are yet to make any notable signings. The Gunners have however been beavering away in the background trying to persuade Liverpool to sell Luis Suarez, who has been subjected to two failed bids by Wenger, though there has been precious little else to report upon at the Emirates. Gonzalo Higuain, once apparently destined to join Arsenal, ended up at Napoli while Wenger has had to sit by and watch as Chelsea have become favourites for another of his targets, Wayne Rooney. There is a growing concern that the club aren't going to make any headway this summer and that, if the pursuit for Suarez fails, Wenger will just turn round and say "well, at least we tried". You see, the veteran French manager is one who promises you marquee signings and then gives you Marouane Chamakh, tells you that he will replace Robin van Persie with quality and signs Oliver Giroud and then claims the club are heading in the right direction. Financially perhaps but on the playing field the club are stagnant, eight years now without a trophy. It is for these reasons why Wenger needs to get the chequebook out between now and February 2 and here, we aim to predict his first 5 summer signings.
