Arsenal Transfers: Wenger's 10 Biggest Ever Flops

8. Denilson

When Denilson arrived at Arsenal from South America in 2006, big things were expected of him. He was the captain of the Brazil-Under 17 side, and was deemed a huge future talent in Arsenal's midfield. Despite being described by manager Arsene Wenger* as "a little bit in between Tomas Rosicky and Gilberto", he never managed to succeed at Arsenal. By the time of the 2010/11 season, the emergence of youngster Jack Wilshire meant the Brazilian got less and less game time. He started only six games that season and was usually limited to substitute appearances, featuring in just 16 games overall. Denilson summed up everyone's feelings when he labelled the 2010/11 season as "shameful" and the "worst of his career" before he was finally allowed to leave the club.** Where is he now? He moved back to Brazil and joined Sao Paulo on loan at the start of the 2011/12 season. He was red carded twice in his first three matches. Source(s): * Arsenal.com, ** ESPN
