Arsenal vs Aston Villa - 5 Key Battles

2. Ashley Westwood vs Aaron Ramsey Ashley Westwood was a quiet but effective signing last season for Aston Villa. Acting as the midfield anchor, he tracked back, winning the ball and shielding the defense, but as not afraid to get forward and have a go at opposing defenses. He may have come from Crewe Alexandra in the fourth division of English football, but his footballing mindset and ability to step up allowed him to easily slot into the Villa line-up, breaking up attacks and helping marshal the defense. Whether he can stop the pace and trickery of Arsenal's attackers, however, waits to be seen. Whether Westwood succeeds in his role is whether the opposing Arsenal number can. Young Welshman Aaron Ramsey has proved time and again to be a hugely underrated player, showing confidence and ability beyond his years. Long ridiculed by Arsenal fans, including myself, this could be the season where Ramsey flourishes. His pre-season form has been excellent, and if he can get more assists and goals in his game he may proved to fill the 'Fabregas role'. If he can do a more effective job than Ashley Westwood, it could prove to be critical in the games' outcome.
