Left-Back: Nelson Vivas
There is very little one can say about Nelson Vivas, simply because there is so little notable about his career. After spending the first seven years of his career in Argentina, his big break was signing for Arsenal in 1998. A versatile full-back, he was initially signed as cover for aging defenders Nigel Winterburn and Lee Dixon. However, the manner in which he performed had the effect of extending their careers for a few more years. Making 36 appearances in his first season at the club, he struggled to maintain a first-team place, and would soon suffer a setback by missing a crucial penalty in a shoot-out against Middlesbrough in the League Cup. Almost as soon as he arrived, Vivas was soon shipped out on loan to Celta Vigo, and when he returned at the start of the 2000/01 season his chances of football were further limited by the arrival of Oleg Luzhny and Sylvinho to the club. Certainly, his club career could not match the consistent performances he was able to provide for the Argentina national team. His contract was allowed to expire after making almost two thirds of his Arsenal appearances from the substitute bench, and he left for Inter Milan to give one more go at finding success in Europe. This wasn't meant to be, and Vivas is hardly remembered at all by the Gunners' fans.
