Though deployed as a winger earlier in his career, Thierry Henry was told he would now be playing as a striker by Arsene Wenger when he signed the Frenchman in 1999. Henry famously said "But boss, I cannot score goals". 226 goals later, he remains Arsenal's record goalscorer.

Arsenal would not have remained unbeaten for a full season without Henry's goals. In the 2003/04 campaign, Henry scored 30 goals in just 37 games, and fired Arsenal to the Premier League title.

After Arsenal

Henry was sold to Barcelona for £16.1m in 2007, after seven successful seasons in North London. He spent three years in Catalonia, before seeing out the end of his career in the United States playing for the New York Red Bulls.

He did have a brief spell back at Arsenal on loan, scoring two goals in the process - one of which being a stoppage time winner versus Sunderland at The Stadium Of Light.

Since retiring in late 2014, Henry has been working for Sky Sports as a pundit. The Frenchman covers Premier League and Champions League games alongside other ex-footballers such as Jamie Redknapp and Graeme Souness.
