The 6'4 tall Frenchman joined Arsenal in 1996, and became the driving force behind the team over a nine year period. Vieira was everything a good captain should be - fearless, vocal, influential  and powerful.

Arguably one of the best box to box midfielders in Premier League history, he not only provided cover whilst the more creative forces attacked, but picked his moments to join in too - scoring 29 league goals for Arsenal during his time at the club.

After Arsenal

Vieira left Arsenal in 2006 for Juventus, with the fee being £13.75m. He later played for Inter and Manchester City, before eventually retiring in 2011. Since then, Vieira has taken up a role with Manchester City as a youth coach, and was strongly linked with the Newcastle United job before it was taken by Steve McClaren.
