Aston Villa Make Transfer Move For Joe Cole

Having turned down a move to French side Lille, the want-a-way Liverpool midfielder has entered talks with Alex McLeish over a move to Villa Park.

Updated: Looks like Villa's interest came too late. Joe Cole has just signed a 1 year loan deal with Lille. Sky Sports are breaking the news that Joe Cole could end up as an Aston Villa player by the end of the day as Alex McLeish is trying to secure a last minute move for the Liverpool midfielder to join the Midlands club. They even suggest talks with the player are already underway. Yesterday it looked certain Cole was bound to join French club Lille, going so far as travelling across the Euro Tunnel to talk to the club about a move across borders but reports emerged this morning that he wasn't totally enamored by the setup over there and has perhaps thought better about a move to another country which could hurt his England Euro 2012 hopes. Now a move, probably a loan deal at this stage, to Villa Park could be on the cards and I imagine that'll suit Joey down to the ground. After all, the French league just doesn't compare to the Premier League and he needs to stay within Fabio Capello's vision to still be considered for international duty.
