Aston Villa Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Paul Lambert Shouldn't Buy Wes Hoolahan

5. He Would Not Be An Long-Term Solution To An On-Going Problem

Wes Hoolahan is a talented player and there is certainly reason to believe that he would be an asset to Aston Villa. Paul Lambert has had a reputation for investing in young and hungry players, something that he did at Norwich and he has continued to do so at Villa. Critics, myself included, have at terms questioned this approach €“ but most successful teams have at least one or two experienced heads. The signing of Grant Holt on loan was perhaps an indication that Lambert has finally appreciated the need to acquire those experienced heads. Hoolahan is now 31, so you could certainly put him in the same category. However, when building a squad it€™s always important to think about how the team will develop in the coming years. From what I understand, Lambert has identified the attacking midfield part of the pitch as something that his team currently lacks. Obviously, Hoolahan might form part of the solution in the short-term €“ but it€™s my belief that he should be targeting a younger player to solve the problem in the longer term; the Irish midfielder is not the answer in my opinion.
