Ayoze Perez Celebrates His Most Important Career Goal For NUFC Vs West Brom
Spanish forward believes his strike gives Newcastle United momentum in their survival bid.
Ayoze Perez was delighted with the most "important" goal of his career to date - and believes his equaliser against West Bromwich Albion will give Newcastle United a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the Premier League run-in. The Spaniard curled an exquisite shot through a crowded Baggies penalty area and past Boaz Myhill in order to hand the Magpies a 1-1 draw and end their club-record eight-match Premier League losing run. The 21-year-old has now netted seven league goals this season - including in each of his last two appearances at St James' Park - but he believes his strike against Tony Pulis' West Brom side was the most important of his career. When asked whether or not his 41st-minute finish - which cancelled out Victor Anichebe's opener - was the most-important goal he had ever scored, Perez told NUFC TV:
"Yes, undoubtedly. We had a really bad start to the game and therefore the goal made up for it. "It's one more goal under my belt, so it was very important."Despite securing their first point since February 28th, several other results went against John Carver's men and they are now in 17th place - and still just two points above the dropzone. However, Perez believes his goal gives the Magpies a much-needed confidence boost ahead of their crucial trip to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and then for their final game of the season against West Ham United. He continued:
"It has given us a lot of confidence but we need to focus on the next game - QPR - and just go after those three important points."For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCultureNUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
