Ayoze Perez Renews Newcastle United Contract
The forward signs until 2021.
Spanish striker Ayoze Perez has signed a new long-term contract with Newcastle United, expected to last until 2021. Having signed for the Magpies in 2014 for just under 2 million, his work rate and ability to come up with important goals have made him a fans favourite at St James Park. And the news of a new deal will come as a relief to many supporters, with fears that the 22-year-old may be lured away to Manchester United or Tottenham. Perez has scored 12 goals in 56 appearances since joining, despite being played out of position on the left wing for most of his time on Tyneside. With new signing Seydou Doumbia arriving on loan, and Aleksander Mitrovic settling in after a turbulent start to his career at the club, the Spaniard will be hoping to develop a partnership with either of the two. January appears to have been a good month for the club, despite languishing near the foot of the table. The signings of Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend, Henri Saviet and Doumbia have provided a breathe of fresh air compared to Mike Ashleys usual dealings. Fans have become more familiar with Sports Direct giveaways than a new player signing in recent years. Despite one win in their past seven games, the new additions, matched with a seemingly talented squad, Steve McClarens men will now favour their chances of staying up.
