Barcelona Transfer News: £35 Million Bid For Chelsea's David Luiz

Sky Sports News. The Brazilian defender-come-holding midfielder has been linked with a move to Camp Nou earlier this summer. Chelsea manager José Mourinho has previously stated that neither Luiz nor Juan Mata were for sale. Sky Sports say that the Portuguese coach expects the bid to be rejected. Speaking after the Blues€™ 2-0 pre-season win over AC Milan on Sunday night in the USA, Mourinho said:

"David has come back with us fantastically and we have to use his quality."He has big self-confidence and self-esteem, especially when he comes up from the back with the ball."
David Luiz signed a five-year deal with Chelsea last September. In total, Luiz has made over 100 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since joining from Portuguese Primeira Liga giants SL Benfica in January 2011. He has scored 6 goals in 62 Premier League appearances for the Blues. Last season, then manager Rafa Benítez trialled with moving David Luiz forward from centre-back into a holding midfield role. Barcelona appointed Argentinian Gerardo Martino as their manager last month following the departure of Tito Vilanova who was suffering with health issues that prevented him continuing in his role.
