Best English Spurs XI Of The Premier League Era

6. Left Wing: Nick Barmby

Nick Barmby played as part of Tottenham's famed front five in the Ossie Ardiles days and was never really a left winger as such for the club. That said, he was more than capable of playing there (he was genuinely "ambipedic" in that he could legitimately use both feet as well as the other) and played there for England so, in the absence of other great left wingers from England in the Premier League era at White Hart Lane, he squeezes in here. A tricky and diminutive player, Barmby played 89 times in the Premier League for Spurs and found the net 21 times - an impressive haul for a midfielder - having come through the ranks at the club. He also played 21 times in other competitions for the club. He played 23 times for England - including the memorable 5-1 win against Germany, when he was the left winger - and scored four times.
