Best English Spurs XI Of The Premier League Era

5. Centre Midfield: Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick joined Spurs from West Ham United in 2004 when he was 23 years old. Although he had already appeared in an England shirt €“ albeit only once and as a substitute €“ it would be at White Hart Lane that he would establish himself as an England international.

In his time at White Hart Lane, Carrick unleashed his huge potential and went on to become one of the best central midfielders in England and, understandably, he started to attract attention from bigger clubs and ended up moving to Manchester United for £18.6 million in 2006.

Carrick's passing and holding play was fantastic at Spurs and it took the arrival of the brilliant Luka Modric two years later to properly fill his boots.

In just less than two years in a Spurs shirt, Carrick played 64 times in the Premier League €“ 61 from the start €“ and he scored twice. He currently has 31 caps for England.
