Attacking midfield has arguably been Spurs' strongest area in the Premier League era. Gareth Bale, Darren Anderton, Rafael van der Vaart, Christian Eriksen, Aaron Lennon, Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela have all played from Spurs in recent years - and all of those players have earned international caps. Indeed, it's quite rare for Spurs' attacking midfielders not to - but there are a few. Willem Korsten made his name in his native Netherlands with Vitesse. He displayed pace, skill and strength and had a very good goalscoring record for a winger. He attracted the attention of English Premier League side Leeds United and the Elland Road side brought him in on loan in 1999. In seven games at Leeds, he scored twice and showed that he could replicated his Eredivisie form in England. Leeds wanted to sign Korsten permanently, but Spurs were suitably impressed to make a bid of £1.5 million, which saw the left-sided player move to North London. Korsten only played 23 times in the league for Spurs - eleven of which were from the bench - but he played well and scored three times. Two of those goals were in the same game against Manchester United - and they were both spectacular. It was that game that really should have finally brought him to the attention of the Dutch national set-up, but it didn't happen and Korsten ended up back in the Netherlands playing in the lower divisions from 2002.
