Celtic Transfers: 5 Strikers Lennon Could Buy For £6 Million Or Less

1. Aron Johannsson

Aron Johannsson plays for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie. This is a player who has been linked with us in similar fashion to Finnbogason, although he would be viewed as the cheaper option to Alfred in this case. Despite that, Johannsson would have much to offer the Celtic team who have had him watched, and here's why: He is the joint third top goal scorer in his league this season with 11 goals from 16 games, an impressive tally. In terms of his style of play, he is quite similar to Finnbogason - he makes good runs and can produce elegant yet deadly finishing. When Neil Lennon flew over to Holland to watch Finnbogason square up to Johannsson's AZ in the league, it was the latter player who stole the show with his two goals bagging a win for his team, while Alfred could't find the net. This caught Lennon's eye and shortly afterwards, speculation of a move to Celtic was red-hot when he posted a snap of Glasgow Airport on twitter. (Prince-Wright, 2013) Nevertheless, what is clear to see is that Finnbogason looks better on comparison at the moment, and from what I've seen, Johannsson doesn't look as equipped to deal with the hardy nature of the Scottish defences as Finnbogason. If Alfred's transfer fee is going to be hitting £5-6million, then I would expect Johannsson's to hit a little lower at £2-3 million, due to the lesser-hype surrounding him. Celtic's management have already been frustrated before when it comes to buying the cheaper option (Bangura, anyone?), but if their quest to bring in Alfred fails for any reason then this guy is a good back-up to have. So there you go, my list of strikers that Celtic could buy this month for £6 million at the most. There is absolutely no reason why Celtic can't do the business to get one of these players in, and they owe it to their fans to do so. We are free from immediate debt, and are basking in the riches of the past two Champions League campaigns. There is nowhere to hide for the Celtic board now, who have been under very tight scrutiny by certain sections of our fan base for their reluctance to spend thus far. I'm sure they don't want even more fans to turn against them by not competing for any of these players. We're doing good at the moment, but we should always be looking to achieve more, and the next Champions League campaign is our target for improvement. Hail Hail.

As a recent university graduate and a huge supporter of Celtic FC, what better way to use my inevitable free time to write about my favourite football team? I'll cover most things that the supporters are talking about at the moment, which includes things that directly and indirectly involve the club. At times I may also stray into matters concerning English clubs.
