Chelsea: 10 Worst Decisions Abramovich Ever Made

2. Failure To Reinvest In Squad

Chelsea Considering Abramovich has ploughed £2 billion into Chelsea since his 2003 takeover, you'd scarcely think not reinvesting in the squad would be a crime the Russian is guilty of, yet the truth is, there has been a massive curb in spending at Stamford Bridge over the last few seasons. These days, Manchester City are the league's big spenders and cast Abramovich into the looming shade with some of their transfer business. As a result, they have overtaken Chelsea in the table and have replaced the Blues as the main threat to Manchester United. Last season, Didier Drogba departed the club along with Nicolas Anelka, while fellow forward Daniel Sturridge was allowed to leave for Liverpool this January. Only Demba Ba has been brought in to replace the trio, and he has only managed two league goals. Chelsea do look a little bereft of strikers up front this season and their distinct lack of firepower has cost them - out at the Champions League group stages, miles off in the league... Abramovich's inability (or refusal) to significantly invest in the squad the same way City's owners do has left them off the pace.
