Chelsea 3-1 Southampton: 5 Things To Consider

5. Forward Thinking - Will Jose Be Brave Enough To Play Torres & Ba Together More Often?

Jose Mourinho has been criticised for allowing Romelu Lukaku to leave on another season long loan, and with the injury to Eto'o sustained against Basel, Chelsea are left with only 2 fit strikers in Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. Mourinho has predominantly favoured playing just one striker, meaning Ba has often been 3rd choice and left with little game time. Needing to chase the game, The Happy One opted to play both Ba and Torres in the 2nd half, sacrificing the disappointed holding midfielder Essien for the lively forward Ba. Both Torres and Ba put in a decent shift for Chelsea, with Torres leaving to a fantastic reception on 84 minutes and Ba grabbing a deserved goal late on. Ba was used as more of a right sided winger than an out and out forward, but his introduction seemed to galvanise the Blues and it will be interesting to see whether he gets another chance to impress in Chelsea's next game, away to Sunderland - something an ex Magpie would relish!
