Chelsea Transfer News: £40m Shake Up Ahead Of Community Shield

Stamford Bridge look to up their game ahead of their Community Shield showdown.

Chelsea are looking to beef up their defensive and offensive prospects ahead of their Community Shield clash with Manchester City this Sunday, according to The Guardian. Given the complicated financial logistics of signing Portugal's Hulk, it seems more likely that Wigan's Victor Moses will be among the acquisitions, if the side will accept around £8m rather than their preferred £10m. The thinking is that with Wigan's frequent threat of relegation, he will be eager to jump ship to a more prosperous team. All that said, a pursuit of Hulk is still expected, alongside Germany forward André Schürrle, if Stamford Bridge are prepared to pony up £25m. Chelsea manager Robert di Matteo is also circling Marseille's César Azpilicueta to make up for José Bosingwa€™s recent departure, and according to some has already made a £5m bid, though more may be required to secure the right-back. After signing the trio of Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Oscar for a whopping £60m, Matteo looks to find three more players to shake up the squad, after finishing 25 points shy of victory in the Premier League last term. The tallest order, however, will be finding a suitable replacement for Didier Drogba, with the aforementioned Hulk being cited alongside Andre Schurrle as the most likely candidates. With tenuous negotiations for the former and worries about experience for the latter, it may in fact fall to Fernando Torres to pick up the slack. What's clear is that we will be looking at a very different Chelsea this season, with the hope that they can edge closer to Premier League glory.
