Chelsea have confirmed on their official site that they have signed Kurt Zouma from Saint-tienne on a five-and-a-half year contract. The under 21 French international has only made 12 appearances this year for the club and will remain there for the rest of the season as the deal sees Chelsea loan back the player until the summer. According to sources the transfer has cost around £12 million. This means that the London club have spent almost £50 million so far in the January transfer window. The 19 year old defender has been at Saint-tienne his whole career, making over 50 appearances for the club. He has also been capped at every level of the youth French national team since 2010. Since bursting into the first team in 2011-2012 season Zouma has impressed pundits and is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Europe. At 6ft 2in hell certainly provide plenty of cover in defence from set pieces and will be a big presence in the back four. This marks another transfer brought in with a view to the future, suggesting Jose Mourinho is looking to build a squad for the upcoming seasons.
