Chelsea Transfer News: Schurrle In, Sturridge Out?

Daniel Sturridge to Anfield if Roberto Di Matteo can secure Andre Schurrle signing.

According to ESPN, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes he is close to agreeing a loan deal for England forward Daniel Sturridge. However, that deal depends on whether or not Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo can himself secure a deadline day deal for Germany international Andre Schurrle. According to a recent Daily Mail report, both Liverpool and Tottenham have shown a healthy interest in Sturridge, who is thought to be keen to depart from the Stamford Bridge side in search of more regular first-team play. The same report suggests that Chelsea are set to tie up an £18 million deal for Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle. Roberto Di Matteo has been after the versatile 21-year-old all summer long and has already had a £16 million offer rejected by the Bundesliga side. If he is successful, Chelsea is thought likely to allow Sturridge leave on loan to another team (potentially Liverpool), as the versatile Schurrle can play either centre-forward or on the wing. The Germany international would certainly be a welcome addition to the Blues€™ squad, fitting in as part of an attacking trio to support Fernando Torres in Di Matteo€™s 4-2-3-1 formation. However, he can also operate in a more advanced role, should Di Matteo need a temporary replacement if Torres falls injured. Schurrle has an impressive record at Die Mannschaft, scoring seven times in seventeen matches and will bring that sought-after German philosophy of technical, attack-minded football with him to the Stamford Bridge side should the deal prove to be a success.
