Chelsea Transfer News: Victor Moses Edge Closer To Move

Victor Moses' potential move to Stamford Bridge appears to have taken another step closer after both sides move nearer in their valuations of the player.

extended talks between the clubs have taken place. Moses, 21, has been on Di Matteo's radar for most of the summer, however until this point, both sides have remained a considerable distance apart in their valuations. But that appears to have changed, with Wigan believed to have dropped from the £10 million asking price that was slapped across Moses earlier on in the window. The latest talks between Whelan and Chelsea Chief Executive Ron Gourlay will be seen as a big breakthrough for Di Matteo who had been hoping to have Moses amongst his squad before the Community Shield against Manchester City on Sunday. Although it is looking increasingly unlikely given that fixture is only four days away, Di Matteo will be thrilled nevertheless that Moses could be lining up for Chelsea instead of Wigan at the DW Stadium when the Premier League kicks off for both clubs on August 18th. As for the fee, BBC Sport believes that Wigan have come down from their intial figure of £10 million and will instead settle for £8.5 million. Wigan find themselves in a weak negotiating position as the Nigerian born playmaker only has 1 year remaining on his current contract, and the although the rhetoric from the club is that they are willing to keep hold of the player and let him leave for nothing next summer, these latest talks suggest that Wigan may be willing to take what they can get for Moses, and reinvest the money in other areas of the squad. Should Moses leave in the next week, it will also give Roberto Martinez the opportunity to find a replacement for the man who scored 6 goals for Wigan last term, and played an integral role in keeping the club up.
