Chelsea Transfers: 10 Greatest Ever Foreign Imports

5. Eider Gudjohnsen

gudjohnsen Cost: £5,000,000 Appearances: 263 Goals: 78 Gudjohnsen admitted to having a gambling problem in 2003, but he was a pretty safe bet in a Chelsea shirt (sorry). During his six years at the club he scored almost 80 goals, along with some 60 assists, and formed a memorable partnership with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Probably the most telling sign of Gudjohnsen's worth to the club is the fact that he survived Abramovich's revolution, continuing to play a key role at Stamford Bridge under both Claudio Ranieri and Jose Mourinho, as big-name after big-name joined the squad. His tally of 263 appearances makes him the club's 4th highest overseas appearance maker; and all for 1/10 the price of Fernando Torres. source - Soccerbase

4. Marcel Desailly

marcel desailly Cost: £4,900,000 Appearances: 222 Goals: 7 After a pretty great career, which included 2 Champions League wins with AC Milan and Marseille, Desailly went on to play for six seasons at Chelsea alongside Frank Leboeuf in defence. Although he didn€™t add another Champions League medal to his collection, he was still a key figure for the club during his whole time there. Desailly left the club at the end of the 2002/03 season, sort of symbolising the end of Chelsea as everyone knew them. The following season would see Roman Abramovich arrive and transform the club into one of the most powerful in the world. source - transfer league
