For the good of his own career, it probably makes sense for Anthony Martial to leave Old Trafford. It's abundantly clear that his current manager simply doesn't trust him as a first-team regular.

In his defence, Mourinho's reasoning for this may be entirely justified. As fans, we aren't privy to what goes on in the locker room or on the training ground, and for all we know, Martial could well be a trouble-maker.

But then football is full of maverick characters. Indeed, between Eden Hazard and David Luiz, Chelsea have one or two of them themselves - and it hasn't exactly stopped them from winning the Premier League in seasons past.

Signing the Frenchman also kills two birds with one stone. As well as being able to operate from the wing, he's equally adept at playing through the middle as a lead striker - a position for which the Blues may need backup should Alvaro Morata's form not improve.
