Chelsea Transfers: 5 Realistic Targets For Jose Mourinho

4. Nemanja Matic

Could Nemanja Matic return to Stamford Bridge this summer after two years away? The Benfica midfielder came to England in 2009 as a promising 20-year-old but never managed to settle down in the Premier League and found himself loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem after managing just two appearances for Chelsea. He then found himself being used as part of the £21 million deal that saw David Luiz join the Blues from Benfica, and he headed in the opposite direction. Since then he's made over 40 appearances for the Portuguese outfit and has settled in so well that an enormous £38 million release clause has been slapped on his head. That's the figure the Europa League winners will have to stump up if they want to re-sign the youngster and Mourinho is understood to have convinced Russian owner Roman Abramovich to bankroll a move for the Serbia international. Benfica would be unwilling to sell but a big-money offer should be enough to persuade them into parting company with one of their most prized assets.
