Chelsea Transfers: 5 Signings Jose Mourinho Must Make

3. Luka Modric

Luka Modric reportedly may follow Mourinho to Chelsea in a £30 million deal. Having unsuccessfully bid for the midfielder last summer, Chelsea may finally get their man as Real Madrid look to finance moves for Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez. Modric has struggled to establish himself in Real Madrid's talented midfield that includes Xabi Alonso, Mesut –zil and Sami Khedira. On many occasions Modric has been confined to the bench and was even voted La Liga's worst signing of 2012, which explains why Madrid would be willing to offload such a talented player at a loss after just one year. Modric is a flexible player and could be deployed in the holding midfield role for Chelsea as a deep lying playmaker, where he could put his often underrated defensive skills to use. Alternatively he could also be employed as the central or left sided player of Chelsea's attacking trio behind the striker. As Spurs fans will know Modric has proven Premier League quality and he may be keen on a return to the country where he was the most successful.
