Phillips If Shaun Wright-Phillips had emerged from the Chelsea youth system or had been signed for a couple of million pounds from a lower league side, he wouldn't have made this list, nor would he have made number 2. As it is, SWP was a player who never once threatened to live up to the huge transfer fee the Blues paid City for his services in 2005. The then 23-year old was being chased by a number of leading clubs back in 2005, long before the mega-rich days that City would later usher in, and the Sky Blues sold the youngster to Chelsea for £21 million. Phillips never justified his price tag and only managed 10 goals in 124 appearances, making him one of the biggest flops in the Mourinho era - but not quite.
