Chelsea Transfers: Di Matteo Desperate For A Striker

Chelsea needs to look more carefully at whats available in the market and should try to strike gold as soon as possible.

With a record spending of over 70 million which has attracted awe, curiosity and criticism from football experts around the world, Chelsea has been able to secure one of the most formidable midfield in the world of club football. Chelsea has signed the likes of Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Oscar to replace its aging midfield and to bring in more aggression in its playing style. However, the Russian owner of the team and its newly made permanent manager are not satisfied with what they already have. Chelsea may have in its reach one of the most clever defense and midfield, but there is one area which is bothering them and making them insecure at the moment. The problem is clear and there is no dichotomy, they have to find a replacement for Drogba. They do have the world's most expensive signing to fill in his shoes, but Torres with his inconsistency and deficiency of confidence, makes himself unreliable. Another replacement available with the team is Daniel Sturridge. But he has been crying foul for not being given enough chances and wasn't among the happy bunch when Chelsea secured the Champions League. But, he like, Torres is suffering from the disorder of being unable to make a good finish and has several times missed the goal post by yards. He may have performed well recently against UAE while playing for Great Britain, but he is not, by any stretch of imagination a replacement for Didier Drogba. Chelsea need somebody more confident and reliable. With the patronage of Abramovich this dream is certainly not unreachable. But clubs around the world have seen Chelsea's deep pockets and desperation to secure a neat striker. Recent example is Aurelio de Laurentiis announced that if Chelsea want their prized possession, Edison Cavani, they will have to shell out a disgusting sum of 78mn pounds or more for the striker who netted 33 goals in 47 games for the recently finished campaign at Napoli. Another club who tried to dig gold is Porto, who refused to let go of Hulk, the 25-year-old who scored 57 goals and had 36 assists over the last two seasons. They have refused a lucrative offer of £38 million and indicated that is not enough to prise him away. So far all attempts of Chelsea to strike a successful deal for a good striker be it Cavani, Falcao, Hulk or Lewandowski have been futile. Chelsea needs to look more carefully at whats available in the market and should try to strike gold as soon as possible. One available option can be Robin Van Persie, the man who single handedly helped Arsenal to secure third position in the Premier league table. The Arsenal captain has been seriously pursued by clubs like Man United, Juventus and Man City. It will be sad if the best striker in last season's Premier League goes to Juventus as he will be missing from the Premier league forever in most likelihood as he is turning 29 soon. With another four or five year remaining in his hands it will be difficult for him to come back and play for a top club once he turns 30. Coming back to the topic, Chelsea needs to strengthen its striking arsenal and the asking price for RVP may be well within its reach. He will be more willing to move to Chelsea as the club will give him permanent striker position as against a club like Man City or Man United. Chelsea with a strong midfield has a strong supply line for RVP in the form of Hazard, Marin, Mata and Oscar. RVP may have a even more successful season at Chelsea. At a club like MCI he would be competing with Aguero, Abdeayor and Balotelli. To sum up, Chelsea has to sort out its striking issues very soon as the time is running out and even the other clubs are preparing strong bids for the strikers in its radar. Players like RVP need to be analysed in light of competitive bids and the sell on price as the player is turning 29 soon. Once it secures a striker like Hulk, Falcao, RVP or Cavani, top four slots in the premier league table and the ability to defend its Champions League title will not be beyond it reach.
