Chelsea Transfers: Ranking Jose Mourinho's Signings From Worst To Best

3. Samuel Eto'o

A few eyebrows were raised in suspicion when Chelsea went in for the former Barcelona legend earlier this summer, but the 32-year-old could still do a job for the Blues this season. Cameroon's all-time top goal-scorer, Eto'o joined the Stamford Bridge club from Anzhi on a free after the owner of the Russian side pulled the plug on financial investments, creating the need to cut costs. He also arrived off the back of the Blues' failed attempts to procure Wayne Rooney's services after Manchester United made it clear they weren't willing to sell. Eto'o, it is reported, has been brought in as a stop-gap striker until next January or summer, at which point Chelsea will launch a fresh bid for Rooney. For the time being at least, you can't argue with this transfer, considering it cost the Londoners nothing. It could also prove to be a wise investment should the ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan man continue his good form from last season, which saw him net 10 goals in 25 games.
