Chelsea Transfers: Ranking Jose Mourinho's Signings From Worst To Best
2. Andre Schurrle
Andre Schurrle was Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's first signing this summer and, as it turned out, the second-costliest transfer after the Blues agreed an £18 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen for his services. The 22-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge off the back of some good form in Germany, where he scored 20 times in 66 outings for Mainz 05 and later 18 in 65 games for Leverkusen. It was his performances for the latter side that helped them finish in the third and final automatic Champions League qualifying place in the Bundesliga last season, and form which encouraged Chelsea to part with a stack of cash. Capable of playing as a winger or a forward, Schurrle has already featured in all three of Chelsea's Premier League games this season, making his first start against Manchester United on August 26.
