Chelsea Transfers: Rating Mourinho's 10 Biggest Deals Of The Summer

4. Demba Ba - SOLD

See, I was rather fond of Demba Ba. He never really got much of a chance to establish himself, being rotated in and out of the side upon first arriving at the club and lumped behind Samuel Eto'o and (oh, the ignominy!) Fernando Torres upon Mourinho's return, yet he always worked hard and caused trouble for the opposition even if his finishing sometimes went astray. When he did score, the goals were often of absolutely gargantuan importance, such as his scrambled finish to put Chelsea through to the Champions League semi finals or taking advantage of Steven Gerrard's never-not-funny slip to tank Liverpool's title hopes and keep Chelsea's alive just a little longer. He was widely acknowledged as being a very humble, decent man who always put in the effort in training and struck up an adorable friendship with Eden Hazard. While fully understandable why he left in search of regular first-team football, it's a shame we couldn't have kept him around for just one season longer. Still, speaking objectively, he didn't really score enough in the limited chances he did get and he never going to be more than a very solid squad player, so as the club's aspirations increased, it was increasingly hard to justify keeping him around. He's already shown signs of his ability following his move to Turkish side Besiktas, scoring a hattrick on his first start in second leg the Champions League qualifier vs Feyenoord. He may be 29, but the £4.7 million fee feels a little on the low side for a player who has a good if unexpectional pedigree, but here's wishing him all the best at his new club. I'll certainly miss him, and not just because his name is such fun to say. Rating: 6/10
