2. Roman Abramovic To Stick With Benitez?
The appointment of Rafael Benitez on an interim basis at Stamford Bridge following the surprise sacking of Roberto Di Matteo has never been a popular one and was met with fierce derision at the time. Chelsea fans will therefore be shocked and dismayed to hear that club owner Roman Abramovic is happy with the progress the Spaniard has made since taking over, triggering rumours that he may even be handed the job permanently following Pep Guardiola's decision to manage Bayern Munich in the summer. Chelsea have endured a fairly mixed month so far. The turn of January saw a shock 1-0 defeat by QPR at Stamford Bridge and was topped off with a 2-0 defeat to Swansea in the first-leg of the Capital One Cup, though the Blues did beat top-four rival Arsenal at the weekend.
Likelihood? Will Benitez be given the job full time? It would be an unpopular decision by Abramovic but he has never been one to consider the wishes of the fans. Still though, the Russian is more likely to appoint someone with a bit more experience.
