Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton - 6 Things We Learned

1. Need To Finish Games Off

In the games against Manchester United, Sunderland and Everton, there were times when Palace were able to dominate proceedings: yet each time they came away without a win and, in the case of the Everton game, ended up being dominated themselves. Against Sunderland, Palace were camped out in the Sunderland half for long periods, yet still contrived to come away with nothing after they were 'Allardyced' in the truest sense of the word. If Palace are to progress in the manner they want, they will have to learn to put teams to bed early and take advantage of periods of dominance. Palace created a number of chances against Southampton and controlled long periods of the game and still, but for a superb late save by Wayne Hennessey, nearly contrived to throw away two points. Palace should have been two or three up by that point. If they continue to leave the door open for teams to get back in games then most will oblige. There's a real sense of solidarity and positivity coursing through the club right now but they need to develop that cut-throat mentality that all the top teams have where, when you have a team on the ropes, you make them pay. Palace have, of course, managed it a few times in the last couple of seasons, but not nearly on a consistent enough basis.
