How A Current World Football XI Looks

Centre-Back - DIEGO GODIN

Diego Godin might not be the classiest, high-profile centre-back around at the moment- those of you who don€™t follow La Liga could certainly be forgiven for not really knowing much about him at all- but on current form there is nobody better in his position in world football. The 28-year-old Uruguay star has been sensational all year long, bossing an Atletico Madrid defence that is incredibly hard to breach. Not only that, but Godin also scored the goal that clinched the La Liga title for Diego Simeone€™s side, away to Barcelona on the final day of the season. His goal in the Champions League final against rivals Real Madrid got Atletico to within seconds of lifting club football€™s biggest prize, only for Sergio Ramos to equalise at the death. Godin has a no-nonsense style, and is a proper defender. Although he is perfectly good on the ball, it is the gritty, defensive side of things he really relishes. Barely any striker gets the better of him, and he is a player at the peak of his powers right now. Don€™t be surprised to see one of Europe€™s true heavyweights make a bid for his services at some point soon. Honourable mention: Vincent Kompany
