David Moyes Targeted By NUFC After Steve McClaren Snub

Spanish media reports claim Newcastle have approached Moyes' brother.

Newcastle United's search for a head coach was throw into disarray when Steve McClaren rejected their SOS plea - and David Moyes has become just the latest high-profile name linked to the job. Former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes is currently in charge of Real Sociedad, having been appointed in November, and he has steered the club to mid-table in La Liga. And, according to reports in Spanish newspaper Sport, Newcastle have made contact through Kenny Moyes, the ex-Preston North End boss' brother, as they look for a Plan B following Derby County boss McClaren's rejection.
Any offer from the Magpies is believed to be conditional on the club remaining in the Premier League, which is certainly not a certainty given the eight-straight losses they have suffered under interim head coach John Carver. Moyes, who was sacked by Manchester United in April 2014 having failed to challenge for any trophies during his maiden season as Old Trafford, is just the second Brit currently working in Spain to be linked to the head-coach position at St James' Park in recent days, however. Real Madrid first-team coach Paul Clement is also believed to be on the Magpies€™ shortlist. Clement has been Carlo Ancelotti€™s assistant at Real since the Italian took charge in June 2013 and he helped the club claim the Champions League title last season.
However, the 43-year-old is expected to leave his post in the Spanish capital this summer in order to pursue a career in management, with Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley believed to be considering Clement€™s credentials. With Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jemez and former Olympiacos head coach Michel Gonzalez also linked to the Toon hotseat in recent days, Newcastle are casting their net far and wide as they plan for life in the Premier League next season - despite the perilous position interim head coach Carver finds his side in.
