England: 5 Reasons Three Lions Can Win The World Cup

2. Defence

With Roy Hodgson being a man favourable of building a strong foundation to the side, it comes as no surprise to see England now boasting a very impressive defence record. The side have conceded just one goal from their last four games despite naming attacking lineups in many of the matches. While many still have their concerns about Hodgson's favoured defensive pairing of Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka at the heart of the back-four, his decision to stick with them has been justified in regard to the results. England were building a reputation of being a side who let in a high amount of goals in games, but gradually Hodgson has been overseeing stronger defensive performances from his backline, and that will give him great confidence that his side can fend off the best attacking nations when the World Cup arrives next summer.
